Make Or Break.

I know what your thinking, where have I been? Well, secrets out I guess, I'm terrible at keeping up with blogging! So you're probably wondering what I've been up to. Well even if you're not wondering that, I'm gonna tell you anyways.

Recently I had my first gallery show and my first art fair and now I'm hooked! I feel as if my career is in the baby beginning, but it's starting to take off. Honestly the feeling of ecstasy that I feel when I receive compliments on my work is just awesome. You're awesome! Yep, that's right. You're awesome because I couldn't have done it without you're encouragement. Thank you for complimenting my work, honestly it keeps me motivated.

So the art show at the gallery was pretty professional. I didn't know what to expect when I entered the show in small town gallery of Yorkton. Saskatchewan doesn't really scream 'ARTSY' in any way at all. Believe me, everything here is agriculture and farming. I don't mind that at all. However, as you might imagine, I did find it surprising that Yorkton held a classy gallery that throws on classy shows. Just seeing my art up on a wall in a gallery was the making of a dream come true. I crossed a new year resolution off the list (still have way more to cross off yet) and let my pride be savoured for just a bit.

Art fairs are the way to go! Man, I was so nervous that I wouldn't make enough to cover the expense of the fair that I almost talked myself out of going. Boy am I ever glad I didn't do that! Not only did I end up being able to pay for everything, but the exposure was worth it. I had two wonderful ladies ask me if I was going to be famous. I didn't hesitate to tell them yes! Then after they left, that question got me thinking. Am I really going to be famous? Is that really my goal for my work? Well, I know I still would be considered an amateur to many pro's out there, but I kinda feel as if I can actually achieve some level of success. Ha! now if that doesn't sound cocky. I know, I know. But really, there is nothing wrong with actually being confident. I mean the entire time I was in that stand showing off my work, I was faking confidence while squirming with terror on the inside. So a little of self bravado might actually do some good. Showing my art in public with so many people around was a really good learning experience. I had to be able to talk about my work, explain with actual words my inspiration behind my art (if you know me, you know that's pretty hard for me to do) and then tell people why I think they should buy my art. Well, I'm no business lady, but I think I'm alright at this. Maybe..........

So, what am I currently doing that you are just dying to know about? Um...... Still painting! Don't tell me you expected that answer? Well you should anyhow, because other than do a bunch of marketing and buying business cards, an artist must always be creating. So actually, if you wouldn't mind, I got to get back to that :) Cheers!

P.S. Always compliment any artist you know. They'll always need it ;)
